Color psychology and what your bag color says about you.

Did you know that I was a psychology major?  My post college studies and work years after that were moderately related to my college major, but my interest in humans and what makes them tick and function in society has always been strong. I use to love diving into how people function in their work culture and environment during my first career in Human Resources. And then I got into doing stuff in design. So the obsession with colors and styles and spaces and how people feel in their environment all kinda flowed into the psychological stuff. It makes sense to me. And now, I’m curious about why people are drawn to certain colors, why people avoid certain colors, why beige is now the countercultural color scheme and what does this all mean? Are people who gravitate towards grey cars those that like to play it safe or are they just indecisive and do people who like bright red cars all going through mid-life crisis or do they just like to be flashy? A little of both? What does your color preference, the colors that you are drawn to say about you?

And how does this relate to my hustle of selling the ultimate modern tote bag. Well, I’ve noticed a trend in the popularity of the bag colors and have clear leads in which ones sell the best. And this could be all me over thinking things and people just like these bag colors and combinations the best, for no reason than just because.  But still, why are people drawn to certain colors and not to others? What does this mean about them? And why add a pop of color inside the bag? Well, my general conclusion is that everyone should have a bit of fun in life, even if that means something as trivial as a pop of color in your bag.  I like juxtaposition and slight tension in pretty much all aspects of life, keeps you on your toes; so although the exterior of the bag may be fairly classic and subdued colors, the interior is meant to whack you on the side of your head. All just for funsies.

Here’s the color psychology   of all of the Notebooks & Honey’s ultimate modern tote bags :

So, which bag color are you? Almost as fun as dissecting personal color preferences is digging into the societal generational divide and how colors  play out in this sociological observation, between Boomers, Gen X, Millennials and Gen Z. I’m a hard core Gen Xer. I think we have the best generation (to be bias) ... hard working, independent, ex-latch key kids that just get stuff done, we have the knowledge of technology but are not jaded or spoiled by technology and we have plenty of our versions of the “back in my day” stories in our pockets that make children think we are old as heck. But hey, we have the best music if you ask me ( “old school” hip hop and grunge?, yes please. ) Again, to be bias.

By the way, the most popular colors in the store are The Morning Person and The Wild One.
